Shimla district police have intensified their crackdown on drug trafficking, dismantling a major heroin supply chain and arresting seven individuals involved in a case registered earlier in February at Rohru.
Addressing the media on February 27, Additional Superintendent of Police Abhishek stated, “Shimla Police is conducting a comprehensive investigation to dismantle drug supply networks and identify both forward and backward linkages in the district.”
The case began on February 2, 2026, when Jashandeep Singh and Dharampreet Singh, both residents of Punjab, were apprehended near Mehandli Bridge with 83 grams of heroin and Rs45,000 in cash. Further investigations led to the arrest of four more individuals associated with the network: Ashish Chauhan (24) from Khashdhar, Naveen Shitta (31) from Goksawari, Diwan Chand (39) from Sundha, and Vijender Singh alias Chhotu (35) from Sundha Bhonda, identified as a major distributor.
Abhishek confirmed, “Jashandeep Singh and Dharampreet Singh were the primary distributors. Subsequent arrests targeted members along the supply chain.”
Financial records revealed that Jashandeep Singh’s accounts showed transactions worth approximately Rs18 lakh over four months, helping police identify key local associates. Communications between the accused and the principal supplier were conducted via WhatsApp using a virtual number.
This led to the arrest of the alleged kingpin, Hardeep Singh of Firozpur, Punjab, with assistance from local authorities. He allegedly coordinated deliveries and ran the backward linkage of the network. Analysis of Hardeep Singh’s accounts uncovered transactions totaling Rs28 lakh over seven months. Investigations are ongoing to identify all associated individuals.
To date, Shimla Police have registered 56 NDPS cases in 2026, arrested 111 individuals, and recovered approximately 475 grams of heroin. Additionally, preventive action was taken under the PIT NDPS Act against habitual offender Papil Bhushan (35) of Kotkhai, who was detained for three months in Model Central Jail Kanda. Bhushan had previously been booked in 2023 and 2025 for heroin-related offenses.
SP Abhishek highlighted that 22 habitual drug traffickers have been detained under preventive orders in the past 31 days, affirming that Shimla Police will continue strict enforcement against narcotics operations.
