ONEONTA, NY — New York State Police arrested 54-year-old Sherry A. Ashmore of Laurens on March 15, 2026, for fourth-degree grand larceny, a class “E” felony.
Troopers responded to Walmart on State Highway 23 in Oneonta after a report of theft. Investigators say Ashmore filled her cart with over $1,000 worth of houseware and garden items, went through a register lane, but made no attempt to pay.
Walmart Asset Protection personnel attempted to stop Ashmore outside the store, but she fled on foot. Troopers later located her at a nearby Burger King, where she was arrested without further incident.
Ashmore was processed at SP Oneonta and released on an appearance ticket. She is scheduled to appear in Oneonta Town Court on May 19, 2026.
