(CULLMAN, Ala.) — A 50-year-old Arab, Alabama man was arrested on drug trafficking charges in Cullman County Monday, February 9.
The Cullman County Sheriff’s Office reported that deputies were attempting to locate a wanted individual near County Road 1605 when they encountered Shelton Ramey, who had an active warrant.
During his arrest, deputies discovered a small bottle containing a suspicious liquid. Tests confirmed the substance was fentanyl, weighing approximately 17 grams.
Ramey was taken to the Cullman County Jail on his outstanding warrant for failure to appear for possession of drug paraphernalia and was additionally charged with drug trafficking.
According to District Attorney Champ Crocker, trafficking a substance in this quantity carries a mandatory life sentence under Alabama law.
