NEW RICHMOND, Ohio (WXIX) — A 61-year-old woman is facing a murder charge after allegedly shooting her boyfriend to death in their New Richmond home.
Shelly Jean McGlone was arrested Tuesday night after police responded to a call around 8:30 p.m. on the 1400 block of Indian Ridge Trail. According to court records, a woman had called police and stated that she had shot her boyfriend.
Officers found 58-year-old Brian Ballard deceased on the couch with a gunshot wound to the chest. McGlone reportedly knocked on a neighbor’s door, covered in blood, and admitted to the shooting before returning to the home.
When police arrived, they called McGlone out of the residence and detained her without incident.
In an affidavit filed in Clermont County Municipal Court, McGlone claimed that Ballard had assaulted her and then handed her a gun, allegedly telling her to shoot him. The case remains under investigation.
McGlone appeared in court Wednesday morning, where her bond was set at $1 million. She is under court order to:
Stay away from the home
Surrender any weapons
Give up her passport
Her next court date is scheduled for September 12.
This is not McGlone’s first encounter with law enforcement. Court records show:
Domestic violence charges in 1998 and 2001 (one conviction)
A 1996 conviction for operating a vehicle under the influence (OVI)
A 2003 guilty plea to a reduced misdemeanor in a bad check case
McGlone is currently being held at the Clermont County Jail.
