Sibley, IA – Shelley Rae Schuck, 53, of Sibley, has been sentenced to a suspended prison term after pleading guilty to first-degree theft in Osceola County District Court on February 3. Schuck was charged with misappropriating over $10,000 while working as a bookkeeper at Bosma Poultry from 2016 to 2021.
Schuck was employed by Bosma Poultry since 2005, but authorities discovered that she had taken money from the business’s account by using an ATM to withdraw funds without authorization. At her hearing, Schuck admitted to the theft, acknowledging her actions to Judge Charles Borth.
As part of a plea agreement, Schuck pleaded guilty to one count of first-degree theft, a Class C felony. In exchange, a second theft charge against her was dropped. Judge Borth sentenced her to a 10-year suspended prison sentence and placed her on probation for three years with the Iowa Department of Corrections.
In addition, Schuck was ordered to pay a fine of $1,370, a surcharge of $205.50, and court-related costs totaling $140. The amount of restitution she will need to repay to Bosma Poultry will be determined in a future hearing. Schuck did not provide any further comments during the proceedings, and representatives of Bosma Poultry chose not to make a statement.
Judge Borth emphasized that the sentence was designed to provide Schuck with an opportunity for rehabilitation while also protecting the community. He acknowledged the plea agreement and the potential for Schuck to turn her life around during her probationary period.
