TUSCOLA COUNTY, Mich. — A Tuscola County couple is facing prison time after admitting to stealing from an unoccupied home in Arbela Township in March 2024.
Shelby Amend, 33, pleaded guilty to breaking and entering with intent to commit larceny, possession of burglary tools, and unlawfully driving away an automobile.
Her husband, Leroy Amend Jr., 34, entered a no contest plea to safe breaking, unlawfully driving away an automobile, and breaking and entering with intent to commit larceny. A no contest plea means he does not admit guilt but accepts the legal consequences.
In exchange for their pleas, prosecutors dropped 28 other charges against the couple.
According to police, the Amends stole 30 to 40 long guns, four handguns, a Ford F-150 pickup truck, three chainsaws, and a welder from the property on Buell Road.
Leroy Amend is scheduled for sentencing on June 10, while Shelby Amend will be sentenced on August 5.
