Shekinah Shyann Sade Brown, 24, a former administrative employee at the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department, has been arrested and charged with obtaining goods under false pretenses. The arrest follows an investigation by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED), which was prompted by allegations that Brown had submitted fraudulent time sheets during her employment.
According to Sheriff Jay Koon, Brown’s actions were brought to light after a review of her time sheets raised red flags. Koon referred the case to SLED for an independent investigation, emphasizing that all employees at the sheriff’s department are held to high standards of integrity.
Brown, who worked as a chemist in the department’s forensic laboratory, was hired in March 2023 and resigned in October 2024. After her arrest on Tuesday morning, Brown turned herself in at the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department headquarters and was taken into custody by SLED agents.
Following her arrest, Brown was booked into the Lexington County Detention Center and later released on a personal recognizance bond. The investigation into her conduct is ongoing.
