Nizamabad, Sept 29: Police in Nizamabad arrested two members of a five-member gang responsible for a major house burglary and seized stolen property worth Rs35 lakh. The accused were identified as Sheikh Salman alias Sonu (25) of Dharmapuri Hills and Marathi Akash Rao (20) of Doddi Komuraiah Colony.
According to Police Commissioner P. Sai Chaitanya, the gang was driven by a desire for a luxurious lifestyle and had committed multiple thefts across the region. The arrest followed an investigation into a burglary complaint filed by Veleti Pawan Sharma, a resident of Brahmins Colony in Nagaram. His house was looted while the family was away celebrating Durga Puja, with burglars escaping with 33 tolas of gold, 25 tolas of silver, and Rs30,000 in cash.
During the probe, police discovered that the gang was led by Sheikh Sadak, a habitual offender with prior cases of theft and ganja smuggling. Based on intelligence, officers spotted Salman and Akash acting suspiciously in an autorickshaw near Double Bedroom Junction. They were apprehended, and upon interrogation, admitted to their role in the burglary.
From the duo, police recovered 31 tolas of gold ornaments, an autorickshaw, and a mobile phone. However, three members of the gang remain absconding.
ACP L. Raja Venkat Reddy confirmed that two teams, led by North Rural CI B. Srinivas, SI M. Gangadhar, the crime team, and Town PS staff, coordinated the successful arrests. Commissioner Sai Chaitanya praised the team’s swift and effective action.
