RICHFIELD, Minn. — The Richfield Police Department is investigating a possible homicide after a woman was found dead in a home early Sunday morning.
Officers responded to a 911 call at approximately 5:01 a.m. from Shay Michael Benson, who reported that his roommate was experiencing a “medical incident” at a residence on 6411 Bloomington Avenue South.
Upon arrival, first responders found a 37-year-old woman lying in the basement bathroom with a laceration to the top of her head. Despite emergency efforts, she later died from her injuries.
Police noted that Benson was covered in blood and had fresh injuries on his hands.
Though Benson gave a version of events to officers, investigators said his statements were inconsistent with the physical evidence found at the scene. Specific details of Benson’s account have not been made public.
Benson was arrested on suspicion of murder, and the investigation remains ongoing, according to police.
