A Washington, D.C. woman has been arrested following an investigation into identity theft and credit card fraud in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware.

According to police, the case began on March 14 when officers responded to a report of identity theft on Christian Street. Investigators later identified the suspect as 43-year-old Shataya R. Kennedy.

Authorities say Kennedy initially attempted to use one victim’s credit card to rent a room but was unsuccessful. She then allegedly used a second victim’s card to secure a room, checking in under the false name “Monique Carter.”

When officers arrived and questioned her, she reportedly continued using the fake identity. Police later confirmed her real identity as Kennedy and discovered she had active warrants in three other states.

Kennedy was taken into custody without incident.

She now faces multiple charges, including identity theft, unlawful use of a credit card, falsifying business records, criminal impersonation, theft of services, and being a fugitive from another state.

Following her arrest, Kennedy was committed to the Delores J. Baylor Women’s Correctional Institution in lieu of $8,000 secured bond.
