Cooch Behar police arrested Binay Roy, a sharpshooter allegedly responsible for the August 9 shooting of Trinamool youth leader Amar Roy, who succumbed to his injuries. The incident, which took place at Dodeyarhat market, also left Amar Roy’s driver injured.
Binay Roy was apprehended during a routine check at Boxirhat police station on the Assam–Bengal border. Police recovered a pistol along with four 9mm cartridges from him.
Additional Superintendent of Police Krishna Gopal Meena informed the media that Amar Roy died after sustaining four bullet wounds—two to the head and two to the stomach. His driver, Alamgir Hossain, was hospitalized due to bullet injuries.
“The arrest follows intensive investigations and questioning of several witnesses,” Meena stated, confirming Binay Roy’s detention early Sunday morning.
