COLUMBUS, Ohio — A Franklin County judge has set a $2 million bond for a Columbus woman charged in the death of her 3-year-old daughter.

According to the Columbus Division of Police, officers responded around 5:35 p.m. on New Year’s Eve to the 1400 block of Orson Drive after a report of a child not breathing. Upon arrival, they found Cassidy Sakoulos unresponsive. She was transported to Nationwide Children’s Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 6:06 p.m.

The preliminary investigation determined the death was a homicide linked to domestic violence. Officials reported Cassidy had visible bruising.

Detectives interviewed her mother, 41-year-old Sharon Sakoulos, who confessed to placing a plastic bag over Cassidy’s head until the child stopped responding, according to court documents. Sharon stated she intended to kill her daughter.

Sharon Sakoulos has been charged with murder and booked into the Franklin County Jail.
