The Chennai City Police and the Anti-Narcotics Intelligence Unit (ANIU) arrested four men and secured a juvenile in two separate narcotics cases on Thursday and Friday, following surveillance and intelligence operations.
On Thursday, Periamet police, acting on a tip-off, kept surveillance on Patnool Sardar Jung Street and noticed a group of four behaving suspiciously. On searching them, police seized 14.97 grams of heroin.
Those arrested were:
Sharif Mian (23)
Mohammed Hussain (36)
Sagar Debnath (24) — all from Tripura
One juvenile, who has been sent to a government observation home
The adult suspects were produced before a magistrate and remanded to judicial custody.
On Friday, Valasaravakkam police arrested J Joy Sujaykumar (22) of Kodaikanal for alleged methamphetamine peddling. He had been under the police radar since his associate, D Boopalan (21) of Saligramam, was arrested in February with 4 grams of meth.
After days of surveillance, police traced Joy to a hideout and took him into custody. He was also remanded to judicial custody.
Police say investigations are ongoing to uncover the wider drug network and trace additional accomplices connected to both cases.
