Bangalore, Karnataka: A 31-year-old man, Sharath, was arrested for allegedly stealing gold ornaments and silver articles from the house of his aunt’s employer in Thyagarajanagar. The theft occurred around five months ago, with the missing items including 250 grams of gold and 2.8 kg of silver.
The complainant, a single parent, discovered the theft on October 22 last year. Initially, suspicion fell on their long-term domestic help, who had a spare key and 25 years of service.
Police, led by Inspector Savitha, traced the crime to Sharath, the domestic helper’s nephew, a school dropout who worked as a car cleaner. Sharath frequently visited the house under the pretext of helping his aunt and was familiar with the premises. Investigators said he took the spare key without the aunt’s knowledge, entered the house while the family was away, and stole the valuables.
Upon his arrest on January 16, authorities recovered 24 grams of gold, 2.8 kg of silver articles, and Rs1.3 lakh in cash.
