MENDOTA, IL — A 32-year-old Mendota man, Shaquille O. Jones, was arrested Tuesday following a four-hour standoff with police after he allegedly committed domestic battery involving strangulation.

According to the Mendota Police Department, officers were dispatched to a residence on the 1100 block of 5th Street after receiving a report of a domestic incident. Upon arrival, officers found that the victim had reportedly been strangled, and Jones had barricaded himself inside the home, refusing to come out.

Police negotiators were eventually able to convince Jones to surrender peacefully. He was taken into custody and transported to the LaSalle County Jail in Ottawa.

As of now, Jones faces charges related to the alleged domestic assault. All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
