Houston, TX – A 67-year-old man was killed late Sunday night in an auto-pedestrian crash on North Chartres Street. The incident occurred just after 10 p.m. in the 100 block of the street.
According to the Houston Police Department, the man was crossing the road eastbound, outside of a designated crosswalk, when he was struck by a northbound Toyota Camry. The driver of the vehicle, 29-year-old Shantel Katelyn Thomas, remained at the scene following the crash.
Emergency responders from the Houston Fire Department arrived shortly after and pronounced the victim dead at the scene.
Investigators later determined that Thomas was impaired at the time of the incident. She was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated (DWI). Bond details for Thomas have not yet been released.
The investigation into the fatal crash remains ongoing.
