SUMMERFIELD, Fla. — A man has been arrested in connection with the theft of a golf cart belonging to an 89-year-old Stonecrest resident, according to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.
The incident occurred on April 20, when the woman’s son drove her black 2012 Club Car golf cart to the Walmart in Summerfield. After completing his shopping, he returned to the parking lot to find the golf cart missing.
The stolen vehicle was recovered two days later, on April 22, at a nearby Summerfield residence. The homeowner told deputies he had purchased the golf cart for $800 and provided information that helped authorities identify the suspect.
Deputies arrested Shannon Michael Mason, 40, who is homeless. When first approached by law enforcement, Mason allegedly lied about his identity. A West Virginia native, Mason has a criminal history including prior arrests for burglary and vehicle theft.
He was booked into Marion County Jail, where he now faces charges related to the theft and providing false information to law enforcement.
