ANGOLA, Ind. (WTVB) — A 35-year-old man from rural Angola has been arrested in connection with the theft of a work van reported in Steuben County earlier this month.

According to the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office, a local business in the 600 block of West SR 120 in Jamestown Township reported a stolen work van on June 5 around 2:30 p.m. The vehicle was recovered the next day abandoned in a parking lot near State Road 127 and County Road 400 North.

Sheriff’s detectives launched an investigation and quickly identified Shane Michael Rakentine of Angola as the primary suspect. On Tuesday morning, shortly after 9:00 a.m., detectives located Rakentine at the American Inn on SR 127. After a brief interview, he was taken into custody without incident.

Rakentine now faces the following charges:

Level 6 Felony Auto Theft

Misdemeanor Possession of Marijuana

He was booked into the Steuben County Jail and is being held on a $4,000 bond.

The Angola Police Department assisted in the investigation. Authorities say the case remains active as they continue reviewing evidence.
