Puttur Town Police have arrested a 50-year-old man, Shamsuddin alias Shamsu, a resident of Kabaka, in connection with the theft of a 10-kg copper bell valued at approximately Rs8,000.
The theft occurred on July 26, 2025, and was registered at Puttur Town Police Station under Crime No. 63/2025, with charges filed under Section 303(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023.
During the investigation, police apprehended Shamsuddin based on evidence linking him to the crime. Authorities also discovered that he is a repeat offender, previously involved in another theft case — Crime No. 83/2004 — registered at the same police station under Sections 454 and 380 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Police confirmed that further investigation is underway to determine if the accused is involved in additional theft cases in the region.
