In a shocking crime driven by greed and betrayal, a 22-year-old woman was arrested on Tuesday for orchestrating the brutal murder of her husband with the help of her lover and a juvenile accomplice.
The accused, Shalu Kumari, resident of Yarpur in Bakhtiyarpur, was taken into custody after police discovered the body of her husband, Dheeraj Kumar, stuffed in a sack and dumped along the Dhoba river. His body was recovered Monday evening by the Bakhtiyarpur police.
According to SDPO-II Abhishek Singh, blood stains at the Dhoba river bridge indicated the site of the murder. Investigations soon revealed that Dheeraj had not been reported missing by his wife, raising suspicions.
Upon interrogation, Shalu confessed to plotting her husband’s murder due to an extramarital affair with Dheeraj’s cousin and a desire to gain possession of his wealth after he sold some land.
Police said a juvenile lured Dheeraj to the bridge under the pretense of attending a birthday celebration. There, he was shot twice in the back and stabbed in the head. His body was then stuffed into a sack and thrown into the river.
Police have also recovered Rs 2.45 lakh in cash—believed to be from the land sale—and two mobile phones. Besides Shalu and the juvenile, three more suspects are believed to be involved in the murder and are currently being sought by police.
“This was a cold and calculated act motivated by money and illicit relationships,” said SDPO Singh.
