Albany, NY (WRGB) — A traffic stop in Albany has led to the arrest of Shakir Michael, 48, following the discovery of illegal drugs intended for distribution.
On Tuesday, June 3, 2025, around 12:47 PM, deputies from the Albany County Sheriff’s Community Oriented Policing Effort (COPE) Unit pulled over a vehicle at the intersection of Central Avenue and North Manning Boulevard for a traffic violation.
During the stop, the driver, later identified as Michael, became physically combative and resisted deputies. He was subdued and taken into custody without further incident.
A search of Michael revealed he was carrying approximately 53 grams of crack cocaine and a quantity of Oxycodone pills, packaged in a way that indicated intent to distribute.
Michael is facing the following charges:
Two counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 3rd Degree
One count of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th Degree
Obstructing Governmental Administration
Resisting Arrest
Multiple Traffic Violations
He is scheduled to be arraigned in Albany City Criminal Court on June 3, 2025.
