Shaka Phillips Arrested for Murder of Ex-Partner Jenel Pollydore

Shaka Phillips, 21, also known as “Concrete Man”, has been arrested by police in connection with the murder of his ex-partner, Jenel Pollydore, 26, who was fatally shot at a wedding reception in Linden on Saturday night.

The Guyana Police Force confirmed Phillips was apprehended around 3:35 p.m. on Sunday in South Amelia’s Ward, Linden. He remains in police custody as investigations continue.

In a statement, police thanked citizens who assisted in locating Phillips and reiterated their commitment to ensuring justice is served. Authorities also urged anyone with information to come forward to support the ongoing probe.

According to police reports, Pollydore and Phillips had previously separated due to ongoing domestic abuse. She had secured a restraining order against him prior to her death. The pair shared a child together.

The tragedy unfolded at R & R Hotel in Central Amelia’s Ward, where guests had gathered for a wedding reception around 9:20 p.m. Reports indicate that Phillips arrived at the venue enraged because Pollydore had not answered his calls.

Malika Pollydore, a relative, told police that Jenel was standing near the entrance when Phillips confronted her, asking why she hadn’t responded. An argument broke out, and Phillips allegedly pulled out a handgun, firing a shot at Pollydore.

She fled toward the hotel’s pool area, but Phillips chased after her and fired two additional rounds before escaping the scene.

Responding officers found Pollydore collapsed with gunshot wounds to her face and head. Two 9mm spent shells were recovered from the scene.

The police described the killing as domestic violence-related, noting that Pollydore had made efforts to protect herself legally prior to the attack.
