In two separate encounters, Greater Noida police arrested five suspects, including a wanted man with a Rs25,000 bounty and four men involved in a sweet shop robbery. Both arrests occurred following brief gunfights during routine police checks.
Shahid, a resident of Okhla, Delhi, wanted in a cow slaughter case under Sections 3/5/8 of the Cow Slaughter Act, was arrested after a gunfight near Pushta in Greater Noida. According to Sudhir Kumar, ADC Greater Noida, police were conducting checks when Shahid, driving a Haryana-registered car, tried to escape.
As police pursued him, Shahid opened fire, prompting retaliatory action. He was hit in the leg and later taken into custody. An illegal pistol with cartridges and the vehicle were seized from him. Shahid had a reward of Rs25,000 on his arrest.
In a separate incident, four men were arrested for a robbery at a sweet shop, where they allegedly stole Rs90,000 in cash. The accused are:
Gaurav alias Golu (21) from Sector-49
Mohit Kumar (20)
Aditya Kumar alias Paltu (23)
Aqeel, all residents of Khoda, Ghaziabad
According to DCP Shakti Mohan Avasthy, police spotted the gang in an autorickshaw near Bahlolpur underpass. Upon being signaled to stop, they attempted to flee toward the FNG service road.
As police gave chase, the suspects abandoned the vehicle and opened fire. A shootout ensued, in which Gaurav was injured and arrested. An illegal pistol and Rs30,000 were recovered from him.
The remaining three were arrested during a subsequent combing operation, with each found in possession of Rs20,000 in cash and illegal weapons.
An FIR has been registered under the BNS Sections 109 (attempt to murder), 305 (theft), 331(4) (house-breaking), and 317(2) (handling stolen property). Police said all suspects have prior criminal records.
