A shocking incident occurred in Shahdara when a family returned from celebrating Holi in Gurugram, only to find their home ransacked and valuables worth Rs 1 crore missing. The police arrested two suspects, including the servant, Nagarjun, and his associate, Rohit Kumar Malik (29), both from Balasore, Odisha.
According to the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Shahdara), Prashant Gautam, the complainant, Sanjay Gupta, had hired Nagarjun, a 21-year-old servant, through a placement agency just a few days before the incident. On March 14, Gupta and his family left for Gurugram, leaving Nagarjun alone at their residence. Upon returning the next day, they discovered that the house had been broken into, with locks damaged and valuables missing.
Nagarjun, along with his accomplice, fled with Rs 6 lakh in cash, multiple pieces of diamond and gold jewellery, and the family’s scooter. Investigations revealed that no police verification had been carried out for Nagarjun, who used a fake Aadhaar card and fraudulent SIM cards to cover his identity.
Following raids in Lado Sarai, police apprehended both suspects. Rohit Kumar Malik had a history of similar theft cases, having been arrested previously in 2013. Based on their confessions, police recovered several stolen items, including five diamond necklaces, gold ornaments, silver jewellery, Rs 33,000 in cash, and the stolen scooter.
Further investigations are ongoing, with the police looking into more details regarding the suspects’ operations.
