A businessman from Shahdara was duped of Rs 3 lakh under the guise of an investment opportunity. The fraudsters promised him substantial earnings after completing a series of tasks, but when the expected return never materialized, the victim realized he had been scammed. The police arrested two individuals involved and bound down two others in connection with the crime.
The complaint was filed on March 6 by a resident of Vishwas Nagar, Shahdara. The complainant stated that he received a call from an unknown number offering an investment opportunity. The fraudsters instructed him to complete specific tasks, after which they promised him a significant return on his investment. Following their instructions, the complainant transferred a total of Rs 3,09,500 into the provided bank accounts. However, when no money was returned and the fraudsters’ contact numbers were switched off, the victim realized he had been cheated.
A case was registered, and DCP (Shahdara) Prashant Gautam formed a team led by Manish Kumar Verma, with Sub-Inspector Shweta Sharma, to investigate the matter. Their efforts revealed that the stolen money had been transferred to three different bank accounts. Several raids were conducted across the city, leading to the arrest of Farhan and Ayaan, two of the main accused. One of the suspects, Fardeen, was bound down, and he disclosed that he had provided his bank details to Farhan in the presence of Danish, another accomplice. Danish was also bound down and admitted to providing his own bank account details to Farhan.
The police revealed that the suspects were motivated by a desire for a lavish lifestyle, which drove them to commit this fraud. The investigation is ongoing, and the authorities continue to probe the role of the remaining suspects.
