WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — The Winston-Salem Police Department continues to investigate a fatal shooting that claimed the life of 20-year-old Deshaun Christian Capers earlier this year.
Officers responded to a report of a shooting at approximately 12:25 a.m. on Aug. 3, 2025, at 3036 North Patterson Avenue. Capers was found suffering from gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.
On Aug. 7, detectives from the Criminal Investigations Division, with assistance from the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Team, arrested Gerard Lewis, 18, who was charged with murder and denied bond.
Police later announced a second arrest in the case. On Dec. 22, Shaerod Lorenzo Jackson, 24, was taken into custody and charged with murder in connection with Capers’ death. Jackson appeared before a magistrate and was also denied bond.
