A local court in Tripura on Tuesday remanded seven individuals to 12-day judicial custody for using unfair means and impersonating candidates during the Lower Division Clerk (LDC) and Multi-Tasking Staff (MTS) recruitment examination held at Tripura University on Sunday.
The arrested individuals include suspects from Bihar, Rajasthan, Haryana, and West Bengal. University authorities initially alerted the police, who detained the suspects directly from the examination hall. After conducting a preliminary investigation, the authorities arrested all the accused.
Himadri Sarkar, the Officer-in-Charge of Amtali Police Station, confirmed that Pankaj Kumar from Bihar and Ram Bir Meena from Rajasthan were caught impersonating other candidates. The other suspects, including Mrinmoy Biswas, Liton Biswas, Mitan Mondal, Rajbir Singh, and Rahul Kumar, were found using electronic devices to cheat during the examination.
According to Sarkar, invigilators noticed unusual behavior from the suspects during the routine verification of candidates and their admit cards. After closer inspection, the teachers caught them using micro hearing devices and concealed mobile phones connected via Bluetooth. The suspects were receiving solved answers in real time.
Additionally, authorities discovered that the identities of two candidates did not match the registered details. Investigations revealed that Pankaj Kumar and Ram Bir Meena had substituted for the original candidates from Haryana and Rajasthan, who were absent. As a result, the university administration canceled their candidature and seized their answer sheets.
The examination was conducted for 17 LDC and 16 MTS positions. The court has allowed police interrogation in jail, and the accused are expected to appear again on March 2, with further updates on the investigation.
