A 27-year-old man, identified as Ismail Isaac Sheikh, has been arrested by the Kashigaon police station for stealing Rs 7 lakh in cash from a shop in the Mira Road area. The police recovered Rs 4.5 lakh and 25 pairs of clothing, which the accused purchased using the stolen money.
Sheikh’s arrest came on Monday, following an investigation into the theft that occurred on February 20, when the shop owner, a 70-year-old woman, was away in Gujarat. During her absence, Sheikh allegedly broke into the shop and took the large sum of cash.
The accused, Ismail Isaac Sheikh, is known to be a serial offender with 10 previous criminal cases against him, including incidents of robbery registered at various police stations in the Mira-Bhayandar area. Police are continuing their investigation into his involvement in other crimes.
Sheikh’s arrest has provided some relief to the victim, who was initially devastated by the theft. Authorities are working to trace any additional stolen goods or accomplices connected to the case.
