GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) – Two men have been arrested in connection with the Oak Fire that scorched parts of Archuleta County last week.

On Sunday, August 17, deputies with the Archuleta County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO) took 41-year-old Sergio Alaniz Jr. and 60-year-old Ross Heirigs into custody. Authorities say both men are facing multiple counts of fourth-degree arson.

According to investigators, the Oak Fire began on Sunday, August 10, when flames from a burn barrel spread rapidly through two nearby neighborhoods. Thanks to a swift response from fire crews, the blaze was contained at approximately 75 acres that same evening.

The investigation remains ongoing.
