A Chinook Winds Casino employee in Lincoln City has been charged with aggravated theft and computer crime after allegedly accessing the player’s cards of 13 gamblers and using their points to win more than $14,000 on slot machines.
On August 27, Oregon State Police Detective Brian Eskridge arrested Sebastian A. Stamey, 22, following an investigation triggered by a casino patron’s report on August 10. The patron notified security that someone had used his player’s card and points without permission. A casino review of surveillance footage confirmed that a casino employee was using the victim’s card.
According to Eskridge’s probable cause affidavit filed in Lincoln County Circuit Court, the investigation expanded. Surveillance videos and computer diagnostics revealed that Stamey, a slot key attendant, manipulated account access to use customer rewards while off duty.
The security team found that 13 gamblers had rewards totaling $8,484 removed from their accounts, ranging from $32 to $2,340 each. Stamey reportedly won $14,168 in casino payouts using these rewards.
Stamey was arraigned on August 28 and is scheduled for his next court appearance on September 22.
