CHEYENNE, Wyo. — Scott VanGoethen, 54, of Cheyenne, was sentenced to 10 years in federal prison after pleading guilty to leading a large-scale methamphetamine distribution operation and illegally possessing 15 firearms.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Wyoming, VanGoethen was convicted of conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine and being a felon in possession of firearms.
The investigation began in December 2024 when Cheyenne Police detectives received information about VanGoethen’s drug activities. A multi-agency operation, including surveillance and confidential sources, revealed that VanGoethen traveled to Colorado to acquire methamphetamine, which he sold to local neighbors involved in further distribution.
During a search of his property, authorities seized 15 firearms and ammunition. As a convicted felon, VanGoethen was legally prohibited from possessing firearms.
The case was handled by the Cheyenne Police Department’s Community Action Team and the DEA, highlighting law enforcement’s commitment to combating drug trafficking and illegal gun possession in Wyoming.
