Scott Barron Arrested in $60K Jewelry Theft from Coral Springs Home

Handyman accused of stealing valuables during unsupervised work

by Sophia Bennett

CORAL SPRINGS, FL — A handyman hired to work in a Coral Springs home was arrested after allegedly stealing over $60,000 worth of jewelry and valuables from the homeowner, police said.

Scott Haven Barron, 45, of Sunrise, was taken into custody on July 10 following an investigation by the Coral Springs Police Department into a reported high-value theft.

According to the arrest report, the victim contacted police on June 30, stating that numerous personal items—including fine jewelry, silverware, binoculars, and a limited-edition Cartier watch—had gone missing from her home. The total loss was estimated at $62,700.

The homeowner told investigators she suspected Barron, who had been performing handyman work at her residence. On June 18, the home’s Wi-Fi was turned off for about an hour, disabling the security cameras. Barron allegedly had full access to the home, including knowledge of the Wi-Fi password and the surveillance setup.

While some of the items may have been stolen on June 18, detectives believe the thefts occurred gradually during Barron’s time working in the home. The victim became more suspicious after Barron failed to return her calls and she learned of his June 26 arrest on unrelated narcotics charges.

During that arrest, police found three high-end bracelets in Barron’s pants and inside a cigarette box in his vehicle—items matching the victim’s missing jewelry. Additional stolen pieces were later recovered from Barron’s belongings at the Broward County Main Jail, and even more were turned in by Barron’s father, including a vintage jade pendant and serpentine chain.

In total, approximately $2,895 worth of items have been recovered so far. Most of the stolen property remains missing.

Barron initially denied the theft, claiming he had purchased the jewelry from a stranger outside a Home Depot. He later admitted to the thefts and offered to return more items.

He remains in custody at Broward County Main Jail without bond, facing multiple counts of grand theft.
