Scott Avila Arrested in Indiana for Meth, Explosives Charges

Police uncover destructive devices, meth during search

LaPaz, Indiana (WSBT) — A 48-year-old man is in custody after authorities discovered dangerous explosives and methamphetamine during a police investigation in Marshall County.

Scott Avila was arrested on Saturday, April 13, after officers responded to a battery complaint at a residence on Vandalia Street in LaPaz. Upon arrival, law enforcement observed what appeared to be “destructive devices” in plain view inside the home.

According to Indiana law, a destructive device can include bombs, rockets, or incendiary explosives. Police obtained a search warrant and uncovered a cache of weapons and drugs.

Among the items seized:

Multiple firearms

Ammunition

High-capacity magazines

Gunpowder

Suspected methamphetamine

Evidence of drug dealing

Avila was booked into the Marshall County Jail and is facing several felony charges:

Dealing in Methamphetamine

Possession of Methamphetamine

Possession of Destructive Devices

He is currently being held on a $400,000 cash bond.
