A school bus driver was arrested Wednesday by the traffic police’s road accident investigation unit in connection with a fatal hit-and-run case in Kanadwas, under Kanota police station jurisdiction, which occurred on August 14.
DCP (Traffic) Sumeet Meharda stated that the driver, identified as Ramesh Chand Meena (38), was apprehended after an extensive search. According to officials, the accident took place around 12:30 PM when a school bus (RJ14 PD 4403), driven at high speed and recklessly, rear-ended a motorcycle (RJ14 JX 1521). The motorcyclist, Ankit Meena, sustained critical injuries.
The driver fled the scene, abandoning the bus at the site of the accident. Investigation officer Veer Singh rushed the injured motorcyclist to the hospital, where doctors declared him dead. The bus was seized, and a case was registered at the Kanota police station.
Police teams began tracking the absconding driver and successfully arrested him Wednesday. Meena is a resident of Bhoorthal village under Kanota police station. Authorities said further interrogation is ongoing to understand why he fled the scene.
DCP Meharda emphasized that the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) is tasked with promptly responding to road accident cases across the city to ensure that those responsible are held accountable.
