Schenectady Man Pleads Guilty to Drug Trafficking, Faces 15 Years in Prison

James Alvin Boone Admits to Distributing Fentanyl and Cocaine

A Schenectady man faces at least 15 years in prison after pleading guilty to multiple drug trafficking charges. James Alvin Boone, 30, appeared in U.S. District Court on Thursday, where he admitted to possessing fentanyl and cocaine with intent to distribute, distributing fentanyl, and possessing a firearm in furtherance of his drug trafficking operations.

Boone confessed to conspiring with another individual to distribute fentanyl and cocaine throughout the Capital Region. He directed his co-conspirator to store large quantities of fentanyl, cocaine, firearms, and ammunition at a storage unit and her home. He also personally distributed fentanyl and cocaine while instructing his co-conspirator to do the same.

Law enforcement seized over 25,000 fentanyl pills weighing over 3 kilograms, several hundred grams of cocaine, and two handguns, along with ammunition, during their investigation. Boone further admitted to possessing more than 1.4 kilograms of cocaine and a pistol at his home in July 2023.

Boone will face sentencing on May 30, 2025, by U.S. District Judge Anne M. Nardacci. He could receive a prison term of 15 years to life, as well as a period of post-imprisonment supervised release.

The investigation was led by the DEA, with assistance from the Colonie Police Department, Schenectady Police Department, and New York State Police. Assistant U.S. Attorney Mikayla Espinosa is prosecuting the case.
