GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) — A Greenville woman wanted in connection with the death of her 6-year-old son has been arrested.
Police in Philadelphia confirmed that 25-year-old Saunsiree Jefferson was taken into custody, though further details have not been released.
Jefferson had been sought by Greenville authorities since last year, following a suspicious death report at the Knights Inn on South Memorial Drive. When officers arrived, they found the child deceased in a motel room where the family had been living in unsanitary conditions.
An autopsy revealed the boy was suffering from leukemia. Investigators believe the illness was ongoing, but medical care was neglected, contributing significantly to his death.
The child’s father, 27-year-old Timothy Curry, was arrested in May by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department. He faces felony charges including negligent child abuse resulting in serious injury and involuntary manslaughter.
Jefferson faces the same charges.
Greenville police have yet to release additional information. Updates will follow as more details emerge.
