More than two weeks after a fatal hit-and-run incident in Delhi’s Bhikaji Cama Place, police have arrested the accused — 39-year-old cab driver Satyvir Singh, a resident of Deroli Jat village in Haryana’s Mahendragarh district.
The accident occurred around 6:30 PM on September 13 on Ring Road when Singh’s white Maruti Ertiga cab struck a motorcycle. The motorcyclist, Bijender Kumar Meena, 43, from Dausa, Rajasthan, sustained serious head injuries and was rushed to AIIMS Trauma Centre, where he died after three days.
A case was filed at RK Puram police station after preliminary investigations, including a medical report and scene analysis.
According to DCP Amit Goel (Southwest Delhi), CCTV footage showed a white cab trailing the victim’s bike, but the license plate wasn’t readable due to poor lighting. Investigators widened their probe across nearby areas — including Safdarjung Enclave, RK Puram, Moti Bagh, Dhaula Kuan, Mahipalpur, and Gurgaon — and sought help from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to track the vehicle.
Their efforts led them to Singh, who was arrested and his vehicle seized. The car had visible damage that aligned with the collision evidence.
Police stated Singh had no prior criminal record. During interrogation, Singh admitted to fleeing the scene. He told investigators that his passengers urged him to stop, but he refused, fearing that stopping might land them in trouble with law enforcement.
Authorities are now working to identify the passengers present in the cab during the incident.
