In a major move against counterfeit currency circulation, the Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) arrested a 35-year-old man in Surat on Tuesday with fake Indian currency notes (FICN) worth Rs1.59 lakh.

The accused, Satyanarayan Teli, originally from West Bengal, was apprehended with 319 counterfeit Rs500 notes. According to investigators, Teli had procured the fake notes for Rs59,000 from West Bengal and brought them into Gujarat with the intent to circulate them.

The ATS had received intelligence regarding the transaction, leading to a swift operation that resulted in Teli’s arrest. Authorities are now investigating the supply chain and possible links to organized counterfeiting networks operating across states.

A senior ATS official stated, “We suspect a larger interstate racket. The accused is being interrogated, and teams may be sent to West Bengal for further probe.”

Teli is currently in custody, and further legal proceedings are underway under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code related to counterfeit currency.
