A 50-year-old man was arrested by Gittikhadan police for attempting to fraudulently gain access to a senior citizen’s bank account by swapping his SIM card under false pretences.

The incident occurred between April 21 and April 23 in Gittikhadan, when the accused, Sattar Qutubuddin Ansari, approached Muralidhar Gajbhiye (70) of Dabha, under the guise of renting his celebration hall located at Hazaripahad.

During the interaction, Ansari requested to use Gajbhiye’s mobile phone to make a call. While handling the phone, he secretly swapped the original SIM card with a counterfeit one and returned the device.

Using the stolen SIM, Ansari attempted to update KYC details at Canara Bank, where Gajbhiye holds an account. However, a vigilant bank manager sensed something was wrong and contacted Gajbhiye directly, exposing the fraud.

Following the complaint, Gittikhadan police booked and arrested Ansari under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). He has since been remanded to police custody pending further investigation.
