In a disturbing case from Satna, Madhya Pradesh, a man was arrested for murdering the mother of a woman he was in love with, after she married her daughter off to someone else. The incident has left the region stunned, with the accused confessing to a cold-blooded, premeditated murder.
On April 12, police discovered a woman’s body near Kolgawan, about 20 km from Satna town. The body had no identification, but an autopsy confirmed death by strangulation, prompting police to register a murder case.
After circulating images of the deceased on social media and in newspapers, a woman named Baby alias Pooja Gond and her father identified the body as that of Sita Gond, aged 45.
CCTV footage showed the victim with an unknown man at Semaria Chowk, near the bus stand. With help from informants, the suspect was identified as Yuvraj alias Raj Satnami, 46, a resident of Tikuria Tola, on the outskirts of Satna.
During police interrogation, Yuvraj confessed to the crime. He had been in a relationship with Pooja for about a year, which her mother strongly opposed. Despite repeated pleas, Sita married Pooja off to a man from Vidisha on March 1.
Enraged, Yuvraj plotted revenge. On April 11, after learning that Pooja would be away, he lured Sita with a false promise of help in availing a government scheme requiring a residence certificate. He convinced her to meet him at Semaria Chowk and took her to Belhata, an isolated area 8 km from Tikuria Tola.
There, he strangled her and dumped her body into a canal.
Yuvraj was arrested following his confession and charged with murder under relevant sections of the law. Police are continuing their investigation.
