Police arrested two women for duping elderly men by falsely promising marriage alliances and stealing money. The accused, K. Saraswati (65) from Krishna district and K. Swathi (40) from Kothagudem, Khammam district, were caught after victims lodged complaints.
According to police, the women would approach elderly men claiming to be relatives searching for brides or grooms. Once the men showed interest, the women requested money citing health issues or family emergencies and then disappeared with the cash.
One victim from Khammam reported losing Rs 1.8 lakh and filed a complaint, prompting police to launch an investigation. Authorities have urged others who may have been defrauded to come forward and report their cases.
The Mahankali police are continuing their investigation to uncover the full extent of the scam.
