A mother has been formally charged with murder following the death of her two-year-old daughter, Eliza Ngaba.
Sarah Ngaba, 30, is already serving a 14-year prison sentence after being found guilty in November 2020 of grievous bodily harm with intent. That conviction stemmed from a 2019 incident when her daughter, just two months old at the time, suffered catastrophic, life-threatening brain injuries that left her permanently disabled.
Eliza later died at The Princess Royal Hospital in Telford on August 15, 2022.
After Eliza’s death, West Mercia Police launched further investigations to determine if additional legal action was warranted. As a result of these inquiries, Sarah Ngaba, formerly of Briarwood, Telford, has now been charged with murder.
Authorities confirmed the charge on Friday, May 2. Ngaba is currently incarcerated at HMP Foston Hall in Derbyshire and is scheduled to appear before Telford Magistrates Court on Tuesday, May 6.
In a statement, police said: “A woman has been charged with murder following the death of two-year-old Eliza Ngaba. Sarah Ngaba, aged 30, has been charged following Eliza’s death at the Princess Royal Hospital in Telford on August 15, 2022.”
