CAROLINE COUNTY, Va. — Sarah Delano, 45, and Derek Delano, 53, both from Ruther Glen in Caroline County, are facing a combined 100 felony charges after allegedly engaging in prescription fraud for two years. The couple is accused of illegally obtaining dozens of prescriptions for controlled substances.
The investigation began when pharmacy staff at a CVS in the Ladysmith area raised concerns about potential prescription fraud. The Caroline County Sheriff’s Office, along with Virginia State Police and the Virginia Department of Health Professions, launched a two-month investigation.
According to authorities, Sarah Delano posed as a medical professional from an unidentified local facility since 2022. She allegedly provided accurate business information to pharmacists and managed to obtain over 50 fraudulent prescriptions for controlled substances during the scheme.
On December 18, both Sarah and Derek Delano were arrested without incident. Sarah is being held without bond, while Derek was released on a $10,000 unsecured bond. They each face 50 felony counts of prescription fraud and 50 counts of conspiracy to commit prescription fraud.
