Sara Elizabeth Wagner Arrested for Theft from Tioga City Funds

City employee charged with stealing over $1,300

TIOGA — A Tioga city employee has been arrested for allegedly stealing over $1,300 from city funds.

Sara Elizabeth Wagner, 39, of Tioga, was taken into custody on October 17. Wagner worked as a secretary in the City of Tioga Auditor’s Office, where she handled payments owed to the city.

According to an affidavit, the thefts were discovered in June 2024, totaling $1,344.08. Security footage from a May 22 city meeting reportedly showed Wagner retrieving envelopes under her desk containing $975.57 of the missing funds.

Wagner was charged with theft between $1,000 and $10,000, a Class C felony. Her bond was set at $2,500 cash/surety, with a condition prohibiting contact with the Auditor’s Office. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for November 19.
