In connection with the murder of a youth reported at Padukere in Kotatattu on December 14, four accused were produced before a Udupi court and remanded to judicial custody, police said.

The victim has been identified as Santosh Mogaveera (31), a resident of the area and an employee of a private bank. Preliminary investigations revealed that the murder took place following a heated quarrel among friends, allegedly while they were under the influence of alcohol.

The accused have been identified as Darshan of Parampalli, Kaushik Pandeshwar, and Ankit and Sujan, both residents of Padukere in Kotatattu. All four were arrested soon after the incident.

Based on a complaint filed by Rajath, a relative of the deceased and an eyewitness, police registered a murder case. Initial findings suggest that the immediate provocation involved abusive remarks against family members and a dispute involving a woman.

Police officials stated that further details are expected to emerge during detailed interrogation, and steps may be taken to seek custodial interrogation of the accused as the investigation progresses.
