Santacruz Police have arrested 33-year-old Sushant Niranjan Miridha from Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, in connection with a burglary at a Jain temple in Vile Parle West. Miridha fled with valuables worth Rs 8.34 lakh.
The police cracked the case after reviewing footage from over 300 CCTV cameras, eventually tracking Miridha down in Bhopal. He hails from Shaktigarh village in Betul district and is linked to multiple criminal cases across Mumbai.
The burglary occurred late on the night of July 13 at the Jain temple inside Hemo and Elve Society on St Mary’s Road, near the Vile Parle West post office. The next morning, the complainant’s father, Bipin Gandhi, found the temple’s wooden door open and the sliding iron gate broken. Several gold, silver, and panchdhatu religious idols and ornaments had been stolen.
The stolen items included gold and silver idols, chains, crows, and brass items such as decorative bowls, plates, and lamps. The complainant promptly filed an FIR with Santacruz Police.
Under the supervision of senior officers including Additional Commissioner Paramjit Singh Dahiya and DCP Dikshit Gedam, a special team was formed. The team included ACP Maruti Pandit, Senior PI Yogesh Shinde, PI Chandrakant Kamble, PSI Prakash Rathod, API Sanjay Kalhatkar, and other personnel.
API Kalhatkar’s team meticulously analyzed over 300 CCTV cameras and, aided by informant tips and advanced technical tracking of Miridha’s frequently changed SIM cards, traced the accused to Chopna village where he was arrested.
