After weeks of intense investigation, the Santacruz Police successfully cracked a major chain-snatching case involving a retired banker. The police arrested Hussaini Mukhtar Irani, a notorious gang member with a long criminal record spanning Mumbai and Thane.

On August 23, 2025, at around 6:40 am, a 77-year-old retired banker was taking his morning walk near Beasant Road, Santacruz (West) when two men on a motorcycle approached him under the guise of asking for directions to a temple. While one engaged him in conversation, the pillion rider allegedly snatched his gold chain and fled. Despite the victim’s immediate chase, the suspects escaped. The victim promptly filed a complaint at Santacruz Police Station, leading to a case under IPC Section 304.

Under the leadership of Additional CP Paramjit Singh Dahiya, DCP Dikshit Gedam, and ACP Maruti Pandit, a special investigation team was formed. Senior PI Yogesh Shinde, PI Chandrakant Kamble, PSI Sanjay Kalhatkar, and PSI Tushar Sawant spearheaded the probe. They reviewed over 250 CCTV footages from various government and private locations.

Through technical analysis and informant information, the suspects were tracked to Patil Nagar, Irani Wasti, Ambivli (Kalyan). Police set a trap and successfully arrested Hussaini Mukhtar Irani, alias Ghazni, aged 26. Hussaini is a habitual offender with more than a dozen cases involving robbery, chain-snatching, and assault across various police jurisdictions in Mumbai and Thane.
