In a swift operation, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) arrested four members of the Haryana-based Sansi gang for stealing gold and diamond jewellery worth Rs 85 lakh from a 60-year-old businessman aboard an express train from Chennai to Kollam.

Incident Details

The victim, Abdul Naseem of Chennai, was traveling with his wife on November 13 when 847 grams of gold and diamond jewellery were stolen from their luggage while they were away in the pantry car. A complaint was filed with the Kollam railway police.

Investigation and Arrest

A special team led by inspectors Madhusudhan Reddy (Chennai Central), along with officers Naveen and Anil, examined CCTV footage and passenger lists across multiple stations. The gang boarded the train at Koyilandy, traveled to Mangalore, and later booked tickets from Mangalore to Goa, helping police track them.

The suspects—Dilbagh (62), Jitendhar (45), Manojkumar (36), and Rajesh (42)—were arrested in Goa with assistance from the local RPF and handed over to Kerala railway police, where they were remanded in custody.

Recovery and Significance

Police seized about 100 sovereigns (~800 grams) of gold and diamond jewellery from the accused. An RPF officer noted this was the first time members of the Sansi gang, suspected in over 100 train thefts, were apprehended.

Authorities credited swift coordination between units for capturing the suspects within two days of the crime.
