by Ananya Mehta

Sankari police have arrested R Prem Kumar, 47, for defrauding a retired EB employee by promising a government job for his son. Prem Kumar, a realtor from the Tamil Nadu Housing Board area, allegedly collaborated with A Jayakandhan, 50, from Sankari.

The victim, K Balakrishnan, 61, a retired EB employee from Erode, was seeking a government position for his son, Prakash, an engineer. Jayakandhan introduced Balakrishnan to Prem Kumar, who demanded Rs 13.65 lakh to secure the job. Between 2019 and 2020, Balakrishnan transferred the money in four installments online.

Despite receiving the funds, the accused failed to provide the job or refund the full amount. After filing a complaint with the Sankari police, Balakrishnan was partially refunded Rs 1.39 lakh, but the rest remained unpaid. On Saturday, he approached Salem SP Gautam Goyal for further action.

While Jayakandhan evaded arrest, Prem Kumar was apprehended on Sunday. Police have registered a case and are investigating further.
