Sanlangabahal village was shaken when a mentally unstable man, Sanjeet Munda (33), was arrested late Tuesday for allegedly murdering his father, Panika Munda. The tragic incident took place under Jamankira police limits.
According to police, the dispute over cooking lunch on Sunday afternoon escalated, resulting in Sanjeet bludgeoning his father with a baton. Shockingly, he lived with the decomposing body inside the house for two days, refusing entry to anyone.
Villagers grew suspicious when Panika was absent for two days. Sanjeet claimed his father was merely sleeping and denied visitors access. Concerned neighbors eventually forced their way into the house and discovered the body.
Sub-divisional police officer Pradeep Kumar Dash said, “The accused struck his father’s head with a baton, causing death. He initially resisted cooperating with investigators.”
Following a formal complaint by neighbor Ranjit Munda, police recovered the murder weapon and took Sanjeet into custody. His bail plea was rejected, and he was remanded to judicial custody. The victim’s body was sent to Kuchinda hospital for autopsy.
Authorities continue to investigate the case, with a focus on the accused’s mental state.
